Cardiovascular
In 2007, SCRI launched its cardiovascular research program with the establishment of Centennial Heart as a strategic investigative site. In 2008, Steven V. Manoukian, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I., came to SCRI from Emory University to lead the cardiovascular research program. In 2009, a second strategic investigative site, Redmond Regional Medical Center/Harbin Clinic, was added, and R. Christopher Jones, M.D., F.A.C.C., joined as director of electrophysiology research.
Cardiovascular research at SCRI continues the legacy of cancer research initiated in 1993 by Tennessee Oncology researchers F. Anthony Greco, M.D., director of Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, and John D. Hainsworth, M.D., chief scientific officer, who shared a vision of bringing innovative treatments to cancer patients in the communities where they lived. They co-founded the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, which quickly became the largest privately funded, community-based cancer program in the country. In 2004, the Sarah Cannon Research Institute was formed to expand the research initiatives of the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center.
